What Mahanagar Gas does

Mahanagar Gas is a city gas distribution company supplying compressed natural gas (CNG) to vehicles and piped natural gas (PNG) to domestic households, commercial establishments and industrial units in Mumbai, its adjoining Thane-Raigad areas, and newer geographical areas. CNG for automobiles is the dominant revenue driver, supported by a large network of CNG stations and a steadily expanding domestic PNG connection base. Margins are driven by the spread between allocated domestic gas/imported LNG costs and retail prices.

It is one of India's largest city gas distributors and the incumbent CGD player in the Mumbai metropolitan region, with GAIL as a promoter.
