What State Bank of India does

State Bank of India is India's largest commercial bank, majority-owned by the Government of India, offering retail, corporate, SME and agricultural banking, treasury operations and international banking across the widest branch and ATM network in the country. Revenue is driven by net interest income on its loan book (home loans, Xpress Credit personal loans, corporate credit) plus fee income. Listed subsidiaries/associates include SBI Life Insurance, SBI Cards and SBI Funds Management (via stakes), which add material value beyond the core bank.

By assets, deposits and branch network it is the largest bank in India, roughly a fifth or more of system deposits.
