REC (formerly Rural Electrification Corporation) is a state-owned infrastructure finance company, a subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation, lending to power generation, transmission, distribution and renewable projects, with its mandate expanded to non-power infrastructure and logistics. Revenue is interest income on its large loan book funded by bonds; it has also been the nodal agency for government power-sector schemes. It is a consistent high-dividend payer.
It is one of India's two dominant power-sector lenders alongside parent PFC.
