NHPC is India's largest hydroelectric power generation company, a government-owned enterprise operating a portfolio of hydro stations across Himalayan and northeastern river systems, with several large projects under construction (including Subansiri Lower and Parbati) and a growing solar/renewables portfolio directly and via subsidiaries. Revenue is earned under regulated cost-plus tariffs providing assured return on equity, so earnings growth tracks commissioning of new regulated capacity. It also has stakes in NHDC and other hydro JVs.
It is the dominant hydro power producer in India's public sector, complementing NTPC's thermal leadership.
