Coal India is the state-owned mining giant that produces roughly three-quarters to four-fifths of India's domestic coal, operating through subsidiaries such as SECL, MCL, NCL and CCL across eight states. The bulk of output is thermal coal sold to power utilities under fuel supply agreements at notified prices, with incremental realisations from e-auction sales at market-linked premiums. Earnings are driven by volumes, e-auction premiums and periodic FSA price revisions; it is also a historically large dividend payer.
It is the world's largest coal producing company by output.
