Portfolio Screener

The Alphave Portfolio Screener ranks NSE-listed stocks on estimated return and risk using the same engine that powers the Portfolio Optimizer, and scores each candidate against the portfolio you already hold. A stock that looks attractive on its own can still be a poor addition if it duplicates something you own; this screener is built to tell those two cases apart.

It is the other half of the Optimizer. The Optimizer can only reason about stocks already in your book — it re-weights, it never widens. This ranks the whole priced universe on the same estimates, so a name found here and a weight set there can never contradict each other.

Open Portfolio Intelligence →The Portfolio Screener is a tab inside /portfolio and is included on both paid plans, Alpha Plus (₹499/month) and Alpha Pro (₹999/month). Alphave's free, live-tape Stock Screener is a separate tool at /screener and needs no account to read.

What Portfolio Screener does

Ranks the priced universe on expected return and risk

Every stock Alphave can estimate, sorted on expected return, volatility, beta, alpha or risk-adjusted return, rather than on a valuation ratio alone.

Scores each candidate against your actual holdings

Turn on your book and the ranking changes: a candidate is judged on what it would add to the portfolio you own at the weight you would add it, not in isolation.

Finds the gaps in your book

An opportunity panel surfaces sectors and exposures your holdings do not cover, so you are shown what is missing rather than more of what you already have.

Filters on sector, index, market cap and liquidity

Including a minimum traded-turnover floor in crores, so the ranking cannot be topped by a name you could not actually buy in size.

Switches estimation window and return model live

Five windows and four return models, changeable without recomputation — the ranking re-sorts immediately.

Hands a candidate straight to the Optimizer

Because both read the same estimates, a name picked here can be taken into the Optimizer at a trial weight and its effect on portfolio risk read off directly.

How Portfolio Screener works

Precomputed nightly, personalised at serve time

Nothing is computed in your browser. A nightly job scores every stock's risk and return over five estimation windows; your own assumptions — risk-free rate, equity risk premium, horizon, and your holdings — are applied in closed form when the request is served. A fully personalised screen of the priced universe answers in roughly 17 milliseconds, which is why every knob is a refetch rather than a wait.

The same four return engines as the Optimizer

Empirical-Bayes shrunk alpha (the default), alpha with no shrinkage, a pure CAPM prior, and raw sample means. Deliberately the same estimator set, so the screener and the optimiser cannot disagree about what a stock is worth.

Five estimation windows

125, 250, 500, 750 and 1,250 trading days — roughly six months to five years. A name that ranks well on every window is a different proposition from one that ranks well on the shortest.

A liquidity floor, on by default

Minimum traded turnover is a filter, not a display column, because an expected-return ranking over an illiquid universe is dominated by stocks whose prices barely move for lack of trading.

Who Portfolio Screener is for

Example

How it differs from a normal screen

Screen the market for high expected return with your book switched off and you get a list. Switch the book on and the same list reorders: names correlated with what you already hold fall, because at the weight you would add them they increase portfolio risk more than they increase portfolio return. Two stocks with identical standalone numbers can sit fifty places apart once the portfolio is in the calculation. That difference is the whole point of the tool.

Questions

What is the difference between the Portfolio Screener and the Stock Screener?
They answer different questions on different clocks. The Stock Screener at /screener runs on the live tape during market hours and ranks stocks on momentum, volume anomaly, relative strength and event signals — it is about what is happening now. The Portfolio Screener runs on a nightly precompute of risk and return estimates and ranks stocks on what they would do to a portfolio you already hold — it is about what to own. The first is free; the second is on the paid plans.
How do I find stocks that actually fit my portfolio?
Judge a candidate by what it adds rather than by how it looks alone. Alphave's Portfolio Screener scores every stock against your existing holdings at the weight you would add it, so a name that duplicates something you own ranks below an otherwise-identical name that does not — and an opportunity panel names the exposures your book is missing.
How often is the Portfolio Screener's data updated?
The risk and return estimates are recomputed nightly across five estimation windows. Your own assumptions — risk-free rate, equity premium, horizon and your holdings — are applied when the page is served, so changing any of them re-ranks the screen immediately without waiting for a recompute.
What does the Portfolio Screener cost?
It is included on both paid plans — Alpha Plus at ₹499 a month and Alpha Pro at ₹999 a month. Alphave's other screener, the live-tape Stock Screener at /screener, is free and needs no account to read.

What Portfolio Screener does not do

Estimates come from historical daily closes, so a recently listed stock, a thin float or an unadjusted corporate action gives an unstable reading. The universe is what Alphave can price with enough history and enough traded turnover to be meaningful — it is not every listed symbol. Nothing here is a buy or sell recommendation; the screener ranks on stated statistical criteria and shows what those criteria are.
