What Yes Bank does

Private sector bank offering retail, MSME and corporate banking, rebuilt after its March 2020 reconstruction under an SBI-led rescue following bad-loan-driven stress; legacy stressed assets were transferred to the JC Flowers ARC. Now focused on granular retail/SME lending, deposit rebuilding and profitability recovery; Japan's SMBC agreed in 2025 to acquire a large stake from SBI and other rescue shareholders to become the lead owner. Revenue is driven by net interest income and improving operating leverage off a low base.

A mid-sized private bank in turnaround, with the SMBC stake purchase marking one of the largest foreign investments in Indian banking.
