What Indigo Paints does

Indigo Paints manufactures and sells decorative paints — emulsions, enamels, primers, distempers and putty — and built its franchise by launching differentiated niche products (such as metallic and floor coat emulsions) and building distribution in smaller towns before entering metros, supported by heavy branding. It has also entered waterproofing/construction chemicals via its acquisition of Apple Chemie. Revenue is driven by decorative paint volumes through its dealer and tinting-machine network.

It is a distant number-five decorative paints player in India, far smaller than Asian Paints and Berger, in an industry that has seen new entrants like Birla Opus intensify competition.
