CSB Bank (formerly Catholic Syrian Bank) is a Kerala-headquartered old private-sector bank in which Canadian investor Prem Watsa's Fairfax group holds a large promoter stake. Its loan book is distinctive for a very high share of gold loans, complemented by SME, retail and wholesale lending, with a branch network concentrated in South India but expanding nationally under its SBS 2030 strategy. Earnings are driven by gold-loan yields and the pace of diversification into other retail assets.
