Nifty 50 contribution today: which stocks and sectors moved the index

The Nifty 50 contribution table (IMAP) shows which sectors and stocks actually moved the Nifty 50 today, and by how much. A stock's contribution is its weight in the index times its move today, divided by 100, in percentage points of the index's move, so a heavy stock that rises a little can count for more than a small one that rises a lot. A heatmap tells you what is up and down; contribution tells you what moved the index.

Index closes are NSE's official closing values. Live NSE prices; market capitalisation from NSE's daily figures. Figures are for information only, not advice.

The columns

Impact

The contribution itself: positive added to the Nifty 50's move today, negative took away. A sector row adds up its stocks, and rows are sorted by the size of their contribution.

Return and weight

Return is the weighted average move of the row's stocks, so it always points the same way as Impact. Weight is the row's share of the Nifty 50.

Min, max, count, % up, % down

The weakest and strongest stock's move in the row, how many stocks it holds, and the share of them rising and falling today.

Stock rows

Open a row down to single stocks for each one's % change, contribution, last price, volume and weight in the index.

How contribution is worked out

Weights

Each stock's weight is its free-float market capitalisation as a share of the index's total.

Percentage points, not index points

Contributions are in percentage points of the index's % move: if the Nifty 50 is up 1% and a stock's contribution is +0.20, that stock accounts for 0.20 of that 1%. To turn it into index points, multiply by the index's level and divide by 100: at 25,000, +0.20 is about 50 points.

Live, and where

On a computer, the sector rows refresh every 10 seconds in market hours; a sector or sub-sector you open shows its stocks as of when you opened it. On a phone, this address shows the heatmap of the same stocks.

Questions about Nifty 50 contribution

What is Nifty 50 contribution today?

How much each sector and stock added to or took away from the Nifty 50's move today, weighted by its share of the index. It answers which stocks moved the index, rather than which stocks went up.

Which stocks contributed most to the Nifty 50 today?

At the close on Thursday, 29 October 2026, the stocks that added most to the Nifty 50's move were ITC +0.074 (+17.0 points), TRENT +0.048 (+10.9 points), NTPC +0.038 (+8.6 points), Larsen & Toubro (LT) +0.033 (+7.5 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) +0.027 (+6.2 points), and the biggest drags were HDFC Bank (HDFCBANK) −0.035 (−8.1 points), Bajaj Finance (BAJFINANCE) −0.012 (−2.7 points), Axis Bank (AXISBANK) −0.009 (−2.2 points), Bajaj Auto (BAJAJ-AUTO) −0.008 (−1.9 points) and Nestle India (NESTLEIND) −0.006 (−1.4 points), in percentage points of the Nifty 50's move and in index points.

How is a stock's contribution to the Nifty 50 calculated?

Its weight in the index (its free-float market capitalisation as a share of the index's total) times its move today, divided by 100. A sector's contribution is the sum of its stocks'.

Is contribution shown in index points?

No, in percentage points of the index's % move. To convert, multiply a contribution by the index's level and divide by 100: at 25,000, a contribution of +0.20 is about 50 index points.

What is IMAP?

IMAP is Alphave's index contribution table: it maps an index's move today onto the sectors, sub-sectors and stocks that made it, using each stock's weight in the index.

Why can a small move in a big stock matter more than a big move in a small one?

Because contribution scales with weight. A stock that is 10% of an index and rises 1% adds 0.10 percentage points; a stock that is 0.5% of it and rises 10% adds only 0.05.

Is the contribution table live?

Yes, in market hours its sector rows refresh every 10 seconds. A sector or sub-sector you open shows its stocks as of when you opened it; open it again for the latest. Outside market hours it shows the last session.

Can I see the contribution table on a phone?

The table is on a computer. On a phone, the same address shows the heatmap of the same stocks.

Do I need an account?

No. The table is free to use at its own address. Switching from it to the heatmap view asks you to sign in, and signing up is free.

Is the heatmap investment advice?

No. The heatmap and the contribution table show market data for information only. They are not a recommendation to buy or sell anything.

The Nifty 50 contribution table shows what actually moved the index today, sector by sector and stock by stock. Market data for information only, not a recommendation.
