Pharma sector contribution today

This table (IMAP) shows how much the Pharma & Health sector, and each of its sub-sectors and stocks, added to or took away from the Nifty 500's move today. Contribution is a stock's weight in the index times its move, divided by 100, in percentage points of the index's move, so a heavy stock that rises a little can count for more than a small one that rises a lot.

At a glance

Measures
Each stock's weight in the index × its move today ÷ 100
Unit
Percentage points of the Nifty 500's % move (× the index level ÷ 100 for index points)
Rows
The sector's sub-sectors, then their Nifty 500 stocks
Weights
Free-float market capitalisation share, rebuilt on the 1st of each month
Updates
As of when the page opened; the full table's sector rows every 10 seconds
Where
On a computer; on a phone this address shows the heatmap

The columns

Impact

The contribution itself: positive added to the Nifty 500's move today, negative took away. A sub-sector row adds up its stocks, and rows are sorted by the size of their contribution.

Return and weight

Return is the weighted average move of the row's stocks, so it always points the same way as Impact. Weight is the row's share of the Nifty 500, and the sub-sectors' weights add up to the sector's own.

Min, max, count, % up, % down

The weakest and strongest stock's move in the row, how many stocks it holds, and the share of them rising and falling today.

Stock rows

Open a row down to single stocks for each one's % change, contribution, last price, volume and weight in the index.

How contribution is worked out

Weights

Each stock's weight is its free-float market capitalisation as a share of the index's total.

Percentage points, not index points

Contributions are in percentage points of the index's % move: if the Nifty 500 is up 1% and a stock's contribution is +0.20, that stock accounts for 0.20 of that 1%. To turn it into index points, multiply by the index's level and divide by 100: at 25,000, +0.20 is about 50 points.

Live, and where

On a computer, this address opens the table at the sector's sub-sectors, as of when the page opened; open the full table (/heatmap/imap) for sectors that refresh every 10 seconds. On a phone, this address shows the heatmap of the same stocks.

To see the same stocks as tiles coloured by today’s move, open the Pharma sector heatmap. For every sector at once, open the sector contribution table.

Questions about Pharma sector contribution

What is Pharma sector contribution today?

How much each sub-sector and stock of the sector added to or took away from the Nifty 500's move today, weighted by its share of the index. It answers which stocks moved the index, rather than which stocks went up.

Which Pharma stocks moved the Nifty 500 most today?

Open the table and read the Impact column: rows are sorted by the size of their contribution, so the top rows moved the Nifty 500 most. Open a sub-sector to see its stocks.

How is a stock's contribution to the Nifty 500 calculated?

Its weight in the index (its free-float market capitalisation as a share of the index's total) times its move today, divided by 100. A sub-sector's contribution is the sum of its stocks'.

Is contribution shown in index points?

No, in percentage points of the index's % move. To convert, multiply a contribution by the index's level and divide by 100: at 25,000, a contribution of +0.20 is about 50 index points.

What is IMAP?

IMAP is Alphave's index contribution table: it maps an index's move today onto the sectors, sub-sectors and stocks that made it, using each stock's weight in the index.

Why can a small move in a big stock matter more than a big move in a small one?

Because contribution scales with weight. A stock that is 10% of an index and rises 1% adds 0.10 percentage points; a stock that is 0.5% of it and rises 10% adds only 0.05.

Is the contribution table live?

It opens on today's figures. In market hours the full table's sector rows (/heatmap/imap) refresh every 10 seconds; a sector's sub-sectors and stocks are as of when they were opened, so reload for the latest.

Can I see the contribution table on a phone?

The table is on a computer. On a phone, the same address shows the heatmap of the same stocks.

Do I need an account?

No. The table is free to use at its own address. Switching from it to the heatmap view asks you to sign in, and signing up is free.

Is the heatmap investment advice?

No. The heatmap and the contribution table show market data for information only. They are not a recommendation to buy or sell anything.

The Pharma sector contribution table shows what actually moved the index today, sector by sector and stock by stock. Market data for information only, not a recommendation.
